Millennium Morris Dancers

Est 1972

Millennium morris dancers started way back in 1972 by Sue Holding as she had three daughters under five and wanted them to take part in a social past time, and she was a experienced morris dancer herself.

The troupe started life as longview shadows they trained in The Congregational Church hall in Longview Huyton for about 8 years, and when the church hall was shut down they moved to a shop on Longview parade which was used as a community centre, after 12 months this venue was also closed down. They then moved to The Mardale Centre in Woolfall Heath Avenue and changed their name to Mardale Morris Dancers.
They stayed at Mardale for 18 years which was a very successful time for the troupes. Then the Mardale Centre closed and we were homeless again, we moved to Lyme Grove Social club for 6 months and decided with it being a new century and a new venue we would change our name to Millennium, we now train in St George's church hall in Longview back were we started in 1972.

We still have people involved who danced for us that very first year and some of our dancers are third generation their mums danced and their Grandmothers danced for us.
We train on a Wednesday from 5.30pm to 8.00pm (Babies - Tinies) and Thursday 7pm - 9pm (Seniors) we have six troupes ages range from 2 years to 25 years, weekly subs are £1.50 per member. New members are always welcome all they need to bring is a pair of pumps as we supply all the costumes they use in competition.
We take part in competitions every Sunday throught the spring and summer all over the north west. For information E-mail us or call in the hall any wednesday.
